Race And The Gospel

Race and the GospelI read a news article today that reported an incident involving a "group of 10 black youths, one of them a 12-year-old girl, [who] surrounded a white couple's car in Brooklyn, viciously beating the husband and yanking the wife to the pavement by her hair as they peppered the two with racial slurs, authorities said." The Zimmerman/Martin event captured the attention of the mainstream media even as they have been slow to report black on black or black on white violence. Yet, if you have been paying attention to certain news outlets, you are well aware that this kind of thing seems to be happening on a regular basis. It seems that our nation is becoming more racially divided day by day.

It was the hope of many Americans that with the election of an African American president this country would take another step forward in realizing racial harmony. This is not to say that racial tensions had been increasing prior to 2008 but thinking Americans recognized that there was still room for improvement in American race relations. Long gone were the days when racism was institutionalized; that had been replaced with government mandated "equality" decades before. However, men are sinful creatures by nature and one of the sins that often remains in evidence is the sin of racism.

Their are people calling themselves Christians who hold to a particular philosophy known as "Kinism." Kinism represents an ideology proclaiming the need to keep the races separate. It is really just a re-warmed "separate but equal" approach to racial relationships. Kinists say God never intended for the races to mix. They say there are inherent differences that go much deeper than skin color and so it is sinful for the races to intermarry with one another and thereby degrade the superior bloodlines of certain groups (especially whites). Rather than Christian, this philosophy is a satanic deception from the pit of hell.

The Bible says there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all (Colossians 3:11). In other words, all racial differences are erased in Christ. There is no indication in Scripture that any one race is superior to the others. Indeed, the plain teaching of the Bible is that there are only two kinds of people on the face of the earth; those who have found salvation in Jesus and those who have not. Any so-called Christian group that claims otherwise is blaspheming the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and should be recognized as anathema.

Leftist ideology claims to be colorblind but it actually stirs up racial tension in order to further its ungodly aims. Kinism, or any other race based belief system, is equally ungodly, regardless of claims to Christianity. Born again believers must be careful in their opposition to leftist theorization so they may not be painted with the same brush as the Kinists and their ilk. Granted, in today's political climate this is difficult. To disagree with the aims of the left is to run the risk of being branded as racist regardless of the subject under consideration. Yet, our job is not to please men but to walk in obedience to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Therefore, we will stand for truth but we will practice self sacrificial service toward all. We will oppose racial preferences and we will acknowledge the equality of all men at the foot of the cross.
